Nick Mokey

Former Editor in Chief

As Digital Trends’ Editor in Chief, Nick Mokey oversees an editorial team covering every gadget under the sun, along with the apps, games, shows, and movies that keep us coming back to them. Though he got his start reviewing phones and laptops, over his 16-year career at Digital Trends, he has covered everything from robot vacuums, to electric motorcycles, and even the stray battery power station. Nick has hosted panels at CES, Web Summit, ThinkLA, and covered shows from Mobile World Congress to E3. Nick studied Magazine Journalism at Syracuse University, and minored in angry reader feedback as the Opinions Editor for The Daily Orange. His first gig in tech journalism came from an internship at Popular Mechanics, where he sunburned his shins sitting in line for the first iPhone. His career at Digital Trends began as a freelancer writer, and has included stints as a Staff Writer, Associate Editor, and Managing Editor. Growing up in Rochester, NY, Nick cut his teeth on a rotating cast of homebuilt PCs he cobbled together with his dad and brother, and caught the need for speed when a new Pentium 133 made Need for Speed run like silk. Somewhere in his basement, Nick still has the cardboard box for the Riva TNT2 graphics card he saved up money to buy for Half-Life, and the Rio PMP 300 that’s probably still loaded with pirated Rage Against The Machine MP3s. Today, you’ll find him tapping away on a Keychron Q2 Max attached to a Lenovo Legion desktop, or a Dell XPS 13 he bribed Digital Trends’ IT manager to upgrade to the 4K OLED screen (thanks, Peter). But his most prized technology might be the Whisker Litter-Robot 4 that liberated him from cat litter scooping forever. Nick is based in Portland, Oregon, where he shares a home with his lovely wife, floofy cat, and a miscreant dog hell bent on destroying his house. On the weekends you’ll find him camping, motorcycling, or woodworking.
