Time lapse videos can be a great way to show prolonged change in a quick and engaging manner. In order to capture time lapse videos, you’ll need a camera capable of performing the task. In this list, you’ll hear about some of our personal favorites. We’ll do a deep dive into the features offered by each one, and we’ll also tell you what you should know about time lapse cameras in general.

How are time lapse cameras powered?

It depends on which camera you choose. Some time lapse cameras will need disposable AA or AAA batteries. Other cameras will contain rechargeable batteries that can be plugged into your laptop or power bank using a USB cable. The charge times and run times of these batteries range in length.

Do I need to be near my camera in order to operate it?

Not necessarily. In fact, one of our favorite things about time lapse cameras is that many of them can run on a preset schedule. You can configure this schedule ahead of time, so that your camera will automatically turn on and shut off at certain times.

Before we get into the individual listings, we wanted to give you a few things to think about that would make a difference regardless of what camera you buy. As you look at each individual item, consider these thoughts:

Includes Flexible Power Save Mode

You can easily set your camera on a schedule to automatically start and stop recordings. This allows the camera to run longer than it otherwise would – up to several days at a time in some instances.
