ALPINA has been tuning BMW’s for exactly 50 years, and the company is marking the occasion with a pair of very exclusive baller bimmers, the “Edition 50” models of its B5 sedan and B6 convertible.
Limited to a strict 50 example each, the cars feature revised versions of the 4.4-liter biturbo V8s that the cars pack under their respective hoods, producing a mouthwatering 600 horsepower. The engine can whip up 590 pound-feet of torque, which hits its peak very early at 3,500 rpm, making it the most powerful engine ALPINA has ever developed.
All this power allows both cars to sprint from 0 to 62 in 4.2 seconds and can top out at around 205 miles per hour.
The interior sports black seats and has a checkered yellow and black stitching across a forest green center. This is a throwback to the upholstery featured in the B7 S Turbo Coupe the company put together in 1982. Naturally, there’s badging everywhere to mark the uniqueness of the cars throughout their cabins. Drivers will spot “1965-2015” logos on the back seats and Edition 50 etched in the panels. There’s also an engraved plaque featuring a signature of ALPINA’s founder, Burkard Bovensiepen.
On the outside, both the B5 and B6 sit on 20-spoke, lightweight forged aluminum alloy 20” wheels. The sets were shaved down as much as possible, resulting in about 33 pounds of unnecessary materials being trimmed away. These hide a four-piston Brembo brake set with 395 millimeter discs and high temperature resistant pads, allowing the 50 Editions to stop on a dime.
Further weight saving is made possible with a new titanium exhaust system, which is around 37 pounds lighter than its stainless steel equivalent.
Those looking to snag one of the exclusive editions will have to contact an ALPINA dealer and prepare themselves to part with at least $129,000.
