Samsung to unveil new line of All-In-One Windows 8 PCs at IFA 2012

As Windows 8 is set to take over the new generation of PCs, Samsung debuts the Series 5 and Series 7 desktops to welcome the new OS.

Check out our review of the Samsung Series 7 all-in-one computer.

The IFA 2012 conference in Berlin is just days away from kickoff, and Samsung has already begun announcing its latest in Windows 8 lineup to prepare consumers for the brand new operating system. Starting at $750, Samsung is releasing new All-In-One (AIO) PCs, a sleek, space-saving device best suited for those just starting college and professionals working from home.

Available in two different screen sizes, the Series 5 and Series 7 are both powered by a third generation Intel Core Processor, with up to 8GB of RAM, a resolution of 1920 x 1080, and HD graphics and audio. The Series 5, the more modest of the two, allows for 500GB of internal memory with a 21.5-inch screen. Series 7 offers screens sizes of 23.6 or 27 inches, both with a hard disk drive of up to 1TB. Both models come complete with a wireless keyboard and mouse — no trackpad. We’re not sure why Samsung decided to stick with one resolution for the three screen sizes, but it ensures the graphics will not be compromised especially with the higher end model rocking an AMD Radeon HD graphic card.

Samsung Series 5 AIO PCThe integrated camera on both Series 5 and Series 7 will recognize user’s finger movement, allowing for a natural gesture technology so you can swipe between pages or rotate your wrist to change the volume — all without getting your fingerprints all over the screen. It will be interesting to see how this gesture plays out in accompaniment of Windows 8, which is heavily touch-based compared to previous versions of the operating system.

“The expansion of our AIO line speaks to the success we’ve had in the PC market over the past year,” said Todd Bouman, vice president of product marketing at Samsung’s Enterprise Business Division. “Both of these new models take Samsung’s convergence technologies to the next level, completing the home computing experience by connecting the PC to other devices in the home environment.”

Series 7 start at $1,100 and goes up to $1,700. Both Series 5 and Series 7 are slated to debut on October 26.

Apple has an incredible talent for making me admire its products while simultaneously questioning what on earth it's thinking with the pricing. This isn't even something as bizarre as a monitor stand, but the audacity for starting a new laptop lineup from $2,000 doesn't surprise me.

The newly announced 14-inch MacBook Pro with M6 is just the latest to showcase this. The funny thing is, I already know that it's going to be a reliable workstation. You get a powerful new 2nm M6 processor, a gorgeous Liquid Retina XDR display, and up to 24 hours of battery life. We were impressed by the M5 MacBook Air, so the high-end M6 powered MacBook Pro definitely won't let us down.

Mini PCs have become an increasingly practical alternative to traditional desktops, especially if you're trying to save desk space without giving up the Windows experience. Whether you need something for everyday work, a home entertainment setup, or more demanding creative tasks, there's a surprising amount of hardware packed into these compact machines.

Apple has unveiled a new iMac and a 14-inch MacBook Pro, both powered by its new baseline M6 chip. If you’ve been eyeing either device, now is the time to act, as entry-level configurations are becoming harder to get with each product launch.

The devices will be open for pre-order Wednesday, October 28, 2026, from 10:10 AM PT. Meanwhile, deliveries and store stock will arrive on Friday, November 6.
