Is Borderlands 3 cross-platform?

Borderlands set the template for a loot-shooter, arguably giving rise to the likes of Destiny and its sequel, and while Borderlands 4 is out as of September 2025, Borderlands 3 remains a popular title – not least because it offers plenty of mayhem and diverse character-building potential for a fraction of the price.
That makes it easier than ever to squad up with friends for co-op sessions (or even playing the entire campaign), but can you play alongside players on other platforms through cross-platform play? Or are you stuck with a smaller pool of players? We’ve got you covered.
Yes, Borderlands 3 features full cross-platform support for all systems, but it wasn’t this way at launch. It wasn’t until 2022 that PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC players could all play together via crossplay. Thankfully, Gearbox was able to add the feature and we can now all play together.
That’s carried across to Borderlands 4, thankfully, which means you can play with friends across PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC right from the jump.
Cross-progression, on the other hand, is a bit more complicated. There’s no way to transfer your character between any platforms except for Steam and Epic games, which isn’t all that useful to most players. Sadly, there’s no method for moving your character off of any console onto another, but you can move your loot between platforms to make recreating that character a little easier. Using the trading system, you can send all your gear to the new account on a different platform and claim it there. You will still need to level up your new character from scratch and redo all the quests, but it’s better than nothing.
You can also pick up where you left off within the same family of consoles, so your PS4 save can transfer to PS5, and your Xbox One save can jump to your Xbox Series X or S. It’s not ideal, admittedly, but it’s something.
