CD Projekt Red’s new game Cyberpunk 2077 is looking to be more ambitious than previously thought.

New grant applications show that the developer has applied for funding from the Polish GameINN Programme for new technologies in “city creation,” “animation excellence,” “cinematic feel,” and “seamless multiplayer.”

As translated by GamePressure, the new application calls for new technologies in “city creation,” which is “a complex technology for creating a huge living city, playable in real time … based on rules, AI, and automation, and supports innovative processes and tools for making top-notch open-world games.”

As for “seamless multiplayer” the application says it’s “a complex technology for making unique multiplayer gameplay mechanics, including the ability to search for opponents, manage game session, replicate objects, and support different game modes along with a unique set of dedicated tools.”

In a response to an inquiry from PC Gamer, CD Projekt Red’s Robert Malinowski said, “We did apply, I can confirm that, yes. However, we wouldn’t like to elaborate beyond what’s already there.”

This could suggest that CD Projekt Red has ambitious plans to turn the world of Cyberpunk 2077 into a living, breathing world with players moving in and out without interruptions. It’s something similar to what Ubisoft is doing with Watch Dogs 2. The possible inclusion of seamless multiplayer is made all the more impressive with the massive scope of Cyberpunk 2077. Currently, the game is already aiming to dwarf the size of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. For anybody who has immersed themselves in the world of the Northern Realms, this is a hugely impressive claim. It’s actually so impressive, it may be too big, making it overwhelming for players. But if there’s one developer that knows how to make a giant world fun, it’s CD Projekt Red.

Cyberpunk 2077 currently has no set release date.
