It’s that time of the year again. Geoff Keighley’s The Game Awards is back later this week and will bring a bevy of video game announcements with it. The Game Awards is often one of the most entertaining gaming showcases of the year, as plenty of exciting announcements are scattered between awards and live musical performances. This year, the awards show is shaping up to be no different; in fact, it’s a bit more special as this is the 10th anniversary of The Game Awards. For those of you who are planning on tuning into The Game Awards 2024 this Thursday, here’s everything to know about when and how to watch it, as well as a tease of what you can expect from it.
The festivities surrounding The Game Awards 2024 begin at 4:30 p.m. PT on Thursday, December 12. The show’s first half-hour is branded as the Opening Act, and Sydnee Goodman is the host for this initial set of announcements and awards. Then, around 5 p.m. PT on Thursday, December 12, The Game Awards 2024 proper will begin. The Game Awards shows typically last between three to four hours, so make sure you set aside the whole evening to watch it live.
The Game Awards 2024 will be simultaneously live-streamed across lots of different platforms this Thursday. Official The Game Awards accounts across YouTube, Twitch, X, Facebook, Kick, and even Steam will host the live stream. You can also expect lots of places to co-stream The Game Awards 2024, from IGN and GameSpot to international platforms like WeChat. Fewer games than usual have been teased for The Game Awards ahead of time this year. However, we do know some of what will show up. That includes new trailers for Warframe: 1999 and Mecha Break and the reveal of Tekken 8’s fourth DLC character. We’ll also get new looks at Borderlands 4 and Mafia: The Old Country, which are likely to be two of the show’s biggest reveals.
While we don’t know as much going into the showcase this year, The Game Awards is typically home to dozens of tantalizing video game announcements. There’s no reason to expect anything different from this year.
The Call of Duty franchise has held a special place in my heart ever since I played my first Black Ops game back in 2010. That game's campaign was something else, with twists and turns that culminated in a mind-blowing finale. We can all admit that compared to those older campaigns, the recent CODs have been lackluster at best, and a complete and utter disappointment at worst. The reboot of Modern Warfare did give me some hope, as the first two installments were actually quite good, but the third game left such a bad taste in my mouth that I wasn’t exactly expecting much from Modern Warfare 4.
After recently finishing the campaign, I can say that this installment is nothing like the recent releases and instead feels closer to the franchise’s roots. For the first time in a long while, the campaign comes across as well-crafted rather than rushed to hit a release date. It arrives three years after MW3, and you can see exactly where all that time went. It seems the studio finally made listening to player feedback a priority.
Epic Games has just announced the 2026 Epic AI MegaJam, which is looking to see how much game development can be squeezed into a very short window. This is running from November 12 through November 15.
Participants can work alone or in teams of up to five people, build in Unreal Engine or Unreal Editor for Fortnite, and bring along “as many AI agents as you want.” Epic explicitly encourages coding agents, AI-generated assets, audio tools, writing tools, and other AI systems. The official event page literally says "Vibe your way to $50k.”
It’s turning into a pretty good time to be a Monster Hunter fan who plays on a phone. Capcom has confirmed that Monster Hunter Outlanders will launch on Android and iOS on October 29, giving the series a new mobile-first game just as Monster Hunter Rise is also preparing to make the jump to smartphones through Netflix.
Outlanders is being developed by Tencent subsidiary TiMi Studio Group under license and supervision from Capcom. Unlike Rise, which appears to be the full console and PC game adapted for mobile, Outlanders is a free-to-play survival hunting game made specifically for phones.
