‘Grand Theft Auto V’ mod makes lighting and weather look like real life

Grand Theft Auto V modder Raze has released a new version of the NaturalVision project, which introduces a range of improvements to the way that the game renders lighting and weather effects.

Grand Theft Auto V hit the scene almost four years ago, but it remains one of the highest-earning video games around, clearing 75 million units sold earlier in 2017. What is more, fan-made mods let players tweak the title’s graphics to put it on a par with new releases.

A mod called NaturalVision was released in 2016 with the intention of making the game’s visuals look as close to real as possible, according to a report from Tech Spot. Now, a significant update overhauled its adjustments to the game’s weather, lighting, color palette, and tone mapping.

Wisely, NaturalVision Remastered does not attempt to make big changes to the 3D models and textures that are used in Grand Theft Auto V. While that sort of approach is not uncommon when it comes to graphical mods, this particular example focuses on visual effects, which helps maintain the game’s established art style.

Razed, the modder behind the project, has made some marked improvements to the way that the game renders all kinds of different graphical flourishes. You can notice that sunlight reflects off the water more realistically, sunsets look a little more beautiful and grand, and neon lights pierce through dark nights with even more contrast.

In all, these changes introduce a far-reaching upgrade to the game’s graphics. Rockstar added plenty of its own improvements when Grand Theft Auto V was re-released for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in 2014, but this mod adds a whole new sheen that belies the open-world adventure’s age.

Indeed, the PC version of Grand Theft Auto V made its debut several months after the HD re-release for consoles, but the wide array of mods that have been developed by fans over the years makes it the definitive way to play the game. There are plenty of crummy mods out there, too, but the best of the best offer some really tangible improvements over the base game.

Players can get their hands on NaturalVision Remastered by downloading it from GTA5 Mods. However, they will first need to download VisualV, another graphical upgrade mod that is a prerequisite for Razed’s advanced weather and lighting effects.

The Call of Duty franchise has held a special place in my heart ever since I played my first Black Ops game back in 2010. That game's campaign was something else, with twists and turns that culminated in a mind-blowing finale. We can all admit that compared to those older campaigns, the recent CODs have been lackluster at best, and a complete and utter disappointment at worst. The reboot of Modern Warfare did give me some hope, as the first two installments were actually quite good, but the third game left such a bad taste in my mouth that I wasn’t exactly expecting much from Modern Warfare 4.

After recently finishing the campaign, I can say that this installment is nothing like the recent releases and instead feels closer to the franchise’s roots. For the first time in a long while, the campaign comes across as well-crafted rather than rushed to hit a release date. It arrives three years after MW3, and you can see exactly where all that time went. It seems the studio finally made listening to player feedback a priority.

Epic Games has just announced the 2026 Epic AI MegaJam, which is looking to see how much game development can be squeezed into a very short window. This is running from November 12 through November 15.

Participants can work alone or in teams of up to five people, build in Unreal Engine or Unreal Editor for Fortnite, and bring along “as many AI agents as you want.” Epic explicitly encourages coding agents, AI-generated assets, audio tools, writing tools, and other AI systems. The official event page literally says "Vibe your way to $50k.”

It’s turning into a pretty good time to be a Monster Hunter fan who plays on a phone. Capcom has confirmed that Monster Hunter Outlanders will launch on Android and iOS on October 29, giving the series a new mobile-first game just as Monster Hunter Rise is also preparing to make the jump to smartphones through Netflix.

Outlanders is being developed by Tencent subsidiary TiMi Studio Group under license and supervision from Capcom. Unlike Rise, which appears to be the full console and PC game adapted for mobile, Outlanders is a free-to-play survival hunting game made specifically for phones.
