‘Neko Atsume VR’ brings the cat-collecting sim to PlayStation VR in 2018

Coming in 2018 for PSVR, developer Hit Point is involved with creating a virtual world resembling the cute cartoon visuals of their mobile game. Little more was shown of Neko Atsume VR aside from a logo.

During Sony’s pre-Tokyo Game Show press conference, many new announcements were made, including upcoming Japanese software for the PlayStation VR. One surprise reveal was the announcement of Neko Atsume VR, based off the cat-collecting sim for smartphones.

Coming in 2018 for PSVR, developer Hit Point is involved with creating a virtual world resembling the cute cartoon visuals of their mobile game. Little more was shown of Neko Atsume VR aside from a logo.

The original Neko Atsume released in Japan in 2014 in for both Android and iOS. An English version launched a year later in 2015. Meant to be a relaxing experience, the game allows users to leave goodies such as food and toys to attract cats to your virtual home. Cats leave presents, but they also allow you to take pictures and rename them. The visuals have a cartoonish style with more than 40 varieties of cats. Most are a simple tabby or calico variety, but rare cats based off baseball players, police officers, butlers, ninjas, and more are also available.

Neko Atsume VR isn’t the first time the mobile game has been adapted into something new. Earlier in 2017, developer Hit Point released a live-action movie based on the game. It comes to DVD and Blu-ray next month in Japan.

Cats weren’t the only announcement during Sony’s press conference. Monster Hunter Worlds showed off an impressive new trailer, revealing many of the upcoming monsters and environments, as well as a glimpse into the fleshed-out story. One of our favorite new monsters looks like a cross between a floating cotton ball and a bat.

For those still looking to enter some virtual worlds, now is as good a time as any. Earlier in September, the PlayStation VR headset was given a slight price drop. What previously cost $400 along with a mandatory PlayStation Camera for $60, is now sold bundled together for $400. Additionally, the Buy Now that came with two Move controllers and cost $500, has been Buy Now .

The headset has been on the market for almost a year, and its library of games is steadily growing. Based on Sony’s press conference at Tokyo Game Show, support for VR is not going away.

Imagine tapping a Zelda icon on your iPhone and jumping straight into Hyrule. A new open-source project called nxnative makes that possible by repackaging Switch games you’ve bought into apps for iPhone, iPad, and Mac, with no emulator in the middle.

Why does this run so well on Apple devices?

The Call of Duty franchise has held a special place in my heart ever since I played my first Black Ops game back in 2010. That game's campaign was something else, with twists and turns that culminated in a mind-blowing finale. We can all admit that compared to those older campaigns, the recent CODs have been lackluster at best, and a complete and utter disappointment at worst. The reboot of Modern Warfare did give me some hope, as the first two installments were actually quite good, but the third game left such a bad taste in my mouth that I wasn’t exactly expecting much from Modern Warfare 4.

After recently finishing the campaign, I can say that this installment is nothing like the recent releases and instead feels closer to the franchise’s roots. For the first time in a long while, the campaign comes across as well-crafted rather than rushed to hit a release date. It arrives three years after MW3, and you can see exactly where all that time went. It seems the studio finally made listening to player feedback a priority.

Epic Games has just announced the 2026 Epic AI MegaJam, which is looking to see how much game development can be squeezed into a very short window. This is running from November 12 through November 15.

Participants can work alone or in teams of up to five people, build in Unreal Engine or Unreal Editor for Fortnite, and bring along “as many AI agents as you want.” Epic explicitly encourages coding agents, AI-generated assets, audio tools, writing tools, and other AI systems. The official event page literally says "Vibe your way to $50k.”
