As the winter months rapidly approach, everyone’s attention has no doubt started shifting from lying on the beach to how they’ll properly manage the dropping temperatures. Unfortunately for many people, this simply means a higher gas or electric bill as they plan to set their heaters to 11 for the foreseeable future. Enter Egloo, an electricity-free heater that makes use of just four small candles to raise the temperature of a small room by 10 degrees in just 30 minutes. Vastly cheaper and ecologically more friendly than traditional heaters, Egloo looks like the perfect winter companion.
After the company announced its innovative new product last year, it was unclear when exactly the Egloo heater would officially hit the market. Now, with news spreading of its impending release, more has been revealed about this unique heater. As mentioned above, the Egloo operates with the use of four miniature candles owners place inside its terra cotta-outfit dome. While the candles burn, the product’s distinctive shape allows it to gradually heat a small area around the heater — without the use of any electricity.
“Egloo is conceived for contrasting continuous waste of electricity used for warming domestic rooms, offering, as an option, a candle-powered way that provides a cheaper and more ecological energy,” the Egloo product site reads. “[It takes] advantage of features of terracotta that stores the heat and slowly and gradually releases it by radiation, even after it blows out.”
And that’s it; literally. No pesky switches to fumble around with, wires to plug in, or exorbitant bills to worry about. Furthermore, the Egloo unit is 3D-printed meaning it’s about as 21st-century as you can get regarding innovative heating solutions. Comprised of just the base, grill, and two domes, Egloo costs anywhere from $50 to $100 depending on a potential buyer’s preferred color style and glaze. Considering it’s incredibly easy to spend $50 to $100 in a single week on heat alone, the price is incredibly attractive — as is the Egloo itself.
