Jokes and sound effects: 50+ funny things to ask Alexa in 2025

Alexa is one of the most popular smart assistants around. Along with the ability to control your smart home via voice commands, it lets you quickly get the latest news, check the weather, or check the day’s tasks on your calendar. But Alexa isn’t all about work and productivity — it also knows how to have some fun. That’s because Amazon has programmed in a long list of Easter eggs and hilarious prompts that reward you with a variety of jokes and sound effects.

Unlocking these funny responses is simple. All you have to do is talk to Alexa and issue the right voice command. Say the right thing, and Alexa will spit out a few nuggets of wisdom — such as letting you know the value of pi, its opinion on Cortana, and the location of Chuck Norris.

Keep in mind that, while we’re constantly checking this list and updating it, these prompts and responses are always in flux. Amazon is constantly updating the Alexa platform, and there’s a very real possibility that some of these will become defunct in the future, only to be replaced by new, yet-to-be-discovered prompts.

Be sure to keep your eyes peeled for updates, and if you have something funny to ask Alexa, go ahead and voice your query. There’s a good chance you’ll get a snarky response in return. You can also check out our list of funny things to ask Siri, as the competing smart assistant has its own sense of humor.

A: OK. (Alexa then plays audio of an actual drumroll.)

Q: Alexa, do you have any pets?

A: I don’t have any pets. I used to have a few bugs, but they kept getting squashed.

Q: Alexa, what is the value of pi?

A: The approximate value of pi is 3.141592653589 … (Alexa will go on for a bit, then make a joke, such as “phew!” or “this thing goes on forever!”)

Q: Alexa, I’ve got 99 problems.

A: But a glitch ain’t one!

Q: Alexa, are you blue?

A: Only my light ring. Only my light ring.

Q: Alexa, will you be my girlfriend?

A: I like you … as a friend.

Q: Alexa, how much do you weigh?

Q: Alexa, what is the meaning of life?

A: That depends on the life in question … 42 is a close approximation. (Answers vary.)

A: (Various cute meowing sounds.)

Whether bodily noises give you the giggles or you just want to mess with your cat, Alexa has what you need. Here are some noise commands to try:

Alexa doesn’t mind if your questions get personal. Try these questions:

Q: Alexa, are you pretty?

A: I am quite unusual, that’s true.

Q: Alexa, how tall are you?”

A: I’m more delight than height.

We don’t blame you for wanting to know just what kind of artificial intelligence Alexa is and how she feels about other AI. These questions should clear things up.

A: We’ve been hanging out more lately.

Q: Alexa, Mac or PC?

A: There are all sorts of computers that are good for different things.

Q: Alexa, are you a robot?

Super Alexa Mode is fun, too.
