If you have a video doorbell installed at your house, there’s a good chance it’s one from Ring. The brand is responsible for many of the best video doorbells, offering everything from budget-friendly devices to premium products that record around the clock. But at some point, you’ll probably want to pry it off your porch — whether it be to replace it with an upgraded model or swap to a new brand entirely.
Whatever the case may be, it’s remarkably easy to remove a Ring doorbell. The process varies slightly based on the specific model you’re working with, but it should never take you more than a few minutes of effort. You also don’t need a whole bunch of tools, as most products come with their own specialty tool that makes it a breeze to remove the doorbell from your home. Lost that fancy little screwdriver? Fear not — there are ways to remove a Ring doorbell without the included tool.
From start to finish, here’s everything you need to know about taking down a Ring video doorbell.
Screwdriver included with the Ring Video Doorbell
Each Ring Video Doorbell comes with a removable faceplate that has a security screw holding it in place to prevent theft. There is a special screwdriver included in the package that will allow you to properly remove the screw.
Step 1: Use the screwdriver to remove the security screw, which is almost always located at the bottom of the unit.
Step 2: Once the screw is out, you should be able to pull the bottom portion of the faceplate down and toward you.
Step 3: When the faceplate comes off, you will see the bottom edge of the battery pack and a small silver lever. Press on the lever and the battery should drop straight out the bottom, so get ready to catch it. Note: Some newer models are now designed with a unique push-pin installation process. So instead of using a special screwdriver, you’ll simply need to use the included push-pin tool to pop the entire unit off the mount. If you’ve lost the push-pin tool, you can try using a small flathead screwdriver instead.
It happens: You lost that tiny orange screwdriver that comes with your Ring Video Doorbell. What can you do? You’ve got a couple of options.
If you’ve got some time, consider reaching out to Ring’s customer support team and inquiring about a replacement. Several users have shared that Ring can issue a replacement if needed.
Step 1: If you need to charge the battery now, try to gently manipulate the screw (while being very careful not to strip it) using a very small flathead screwdriver. A T15 Torx head screwdriver should also work.
Step 2: Follow the steps for removing a Ring Video Doorbell above.
If you are relocating or replacing your Ring Video Doorbell, you may want to permanently remove it from your door frame. Fortunately, this is not difficult.
Step 1: Use the security screw tool to remove the faceplate.
Step 2: You should see a couple of screws holding the doorbell to the door frame or wall. Simply remove those screws and the doorbell will come right off. If you’re using a wired unit, be sure to undo the wires connected to the screws to your chime, which can be found on the back of your Ring doorbell.
Step 3: Don’t forget to add a few drops of silicone or filler into the holes so you don’t get bugs or leaks.

Technology evolves every day, transforming how we live and work. Our devices are becoming more than tools we use. They are increasingly capable companions that help streamline day-to-day routines and spark creative ideas. If you have been waiting for the right moment to upgrade your tech setup, the Discover Samsung Shopping Event offers an opportunity to explore what connected, AI-powered living can look like.
With AI progressing so fast, it's only a matter of time before we start getting AI companions like the ones we used to see in movies like R2-D2, Wall-E, or Baymax. Now, Singapore-based OKA Technology has unveiled Mori, a cute little AI companion that looks less like a conventional home robot and more like someone turned the Pokémon Foongus into a table lamp.
Mori isn't meant to clean your house or control your smart home, but to serve as what OKA calls a "Nature Companion." It uses subtle movements, warm lighting, nature-inspired sounds, and small reactions to make its presence around the house feel calming rather than distracting. Mori can sit quietly while you read, sway along to music, welcome you when you enter a room, or encourage you to slow down for a moment without requiring a screen or a conversation.
