These 6 Labor Day smart home deals solve real problems

Six Labor Day smart home deals from Amazon and Best Buy that can actually make your home more useful.

Labor Day sales are packed with smart home gear, but a discount alone doesn’t make something worth adding to your house. I narrowed the current Amazon and Best Buy sales down to six deals covering security, climate control, and everyday convenience.

A smart lock is one of those upgrades that can make sense even if the rest of your home isn’t particularly smart. Best Buy has the eufy Smart Lock E31 for $124.99, down from $209.99. It offers fingerprint unlocking, keypad access, app controls, and Matter support, so it works with the major smart home ecosystems without locking you into one.

Amazon has knocked $60 off the Ring Battery Doorbell 2K Plus for Labor Day, bringing it down from $180 to $120. The 2K resolution gives you a clearer look at visitors and deliveries, while the battery-powered design saves you from having to wire it into your home. It’s an easy entry point into Ring’s security ecosystem.

The discount isn’t the largest here, but the Nest Learning Thermostat remains one of the more compelling smart thermostats available. Best Buy has the fourth-generation model with a temperature sensor for $239.99 instead of $279.99. It’s also our best overall smart thermostat, thanks to its automated scheduling, larger display, Matter support, and energy-saving features.

The latest Echo Show 8 hits a useful middle ground between a tiny smart display and something that dominates your kitchen counter. Amazon has it for $149.99 instead of $179.99 for Labor Day. When Amazon introduced the latest Echo Show 8, we highlighted its redesigned display, improved camera, and Alexa+ support. It also works as a handy control panel for cameras and other connected devices.

For $199.99 instead of $299.99, Best Buy’s three-camera Arlo Pro bundle gets you much more coverage than buying a single security camera and expanding later. We’ve previously covered this exact Arlo Pro 6 three-camera bundle, which gives you 2K HDR video, color night vision, rechargeable batteries, and dual-band Wi-Fi. Saving $100 makes it particularly attractive for a starter security setup.

The eufyCam 3 bundle costs considerably more than the Arlo kit, but Best Buy is taking $205 off its usual $599.99 price. You’re getting three 4K outdoor cameras, built-in solar charging, and HomeBase 3 for local storage. That local-storage setup remains particularly appealing if you’d rather avoid making another monthly cloud subscription part of your smart home.

Technology evolves every day, transforming how we live and work. Our devices are becoming more than tools we use. They are increasingly capable companions that help streamline day-to-day routines and spark creative ideas. If you have been waiting for the right moment to upgrade your tech setup, the Discover Samsung Shopping Event offers an opportunity to explore what connected, AI-powered living can look like.

With AI progressing so fast, it's only a matter of time before we start getting AI companions like the ones we used to see in movies like R2-D2, Wall-E, or Baymax. Now, Singapore-based OKA Technology has unveiled Mori, a cute little AI companion that looks less like a conventional home robot and more like someone turned the Pokémon Foongus into a table lamp.

Mori isn't meant to clean your house or control your smart home, but to serve as what OKA calls a "Nature Companion." It uses subtle movements, warm lighting, nature-inspired sounds, and small reactions to make its presence around the house feel calming rather than distracting. Mori can sit quietly while you read, sway along to music, welcome you when you enter a room, or encourage you to slow down for a moment without requiring a screen or a conversation.
