Another year, another price increase for Paramount+

Paramount+ is increasing its subscription rates by as much as $2 a month for one tier in its second rate hike in about a year.

Here we go again. About a year since its last price increase, the Paramount+ streaming service is getting more expensive again.

The new pricing goes live on August 20, 2024, for new subscribers. Current subscribers will get an extra month of respite, with September 20 being their cutoff date.

Paramount+ is home to a wealth of content. It’s where you’ll find all things Star Trek, as well as a slew of original series exclusive to the streaming service itself, like Mayor of Kingstown. It also has a bit of live sports, and subscribers are able to watch their regional NFL games when that’s in season. And being a corporate cousin of Showtime (more like close siblings at this point), that premium content also is available within Paramount+ itself. Plus, you can get basically anything that’s on CBS on-demand.

Paramount+ had 71.2 million subscribers globally and added 3.7 million subscriptions in the first three months of 2024.

Meanwhile, you can continue to watch Paramount+ on pretty much any major streaming platform. It’s available on Roku and Amazon Fire TV, which comprise the two largest in the world. And it’s also available on Apple TV, Android TV and Google TV, on various smart TV systems, and in a web browser.

Instagram is making its way to yet another screen, and this time, Apple TV is getting a taste of the Reels rabbit hole. The company has launched a dedicated Instagram app for Apple TV, bringing Reels, longer videos, and live shows to the big screen. So, if watching one quick clip on a phone somehow turns into an hour of scrolling, there's now a much larger screen for that.

Audio-Technica, a brand well known for making some of the best studio and professional headphones on the market, has just come out with the ATH-AWX7000, which the company itself claims to be its "finest headphones ever." The new flagship closed-back headphone has debuted at an eye-watering price of $3,799. It combines hand-finished Japanese woodwork with a newly developed 58mm driver.

The earcups are made from Kiso cypress, a prized wood historically used for Shinto shrines and Buddhist temples. Each housing is finished by hand with traditional Echizen lacquer, which brings out the grain and is expected to darken over time. The frame and sliders are finished in a deep navy kachi-iro shade traditionally associated with samurai.
