Academy Award-winning director Guillermo del Toro has just released quite possibly the greatest film adaptation of Frankenstein ever. In this faithful adaptation of Mary Shelley’s classic novel, Victor Frankenstein (Oscar Isaac) recounts the story of how he sought to bring life to dead flesh after the untimely demise of his mother.

We follow Victor in his decades-long quest to build a living Creature (Jacob Elordi) using the parts of human corpses. However, once he finally achieves his goal, in his arrogance, he unleashes the Creature’s superhuman wrath after injecting him with hatred and loneliness. While the Creature is one of cinema’s most iconic monsters, this film shows that his creator was the real monster all along.

Black Panther director Ryan Coogler unleashed one of the most inventive horror movies in recent years with this original film. Set in Jim Crow-era Mississippi, Sinners follows gangster twin brothers Smoke and Stack (Michael B. Jordan) as they try to open a juke joint in their hometown after working for Al Capone.

Though their opening night starts out great, the mystical music created by their guitarist cousin Sammie (Miles Caton) attracts the attention of the vampire Remmick (Jack O’Connell). The party quickly turns into a massacre as Remmick and his followers turn the twins’ friends and loved ones into vampires, culminating in an epic battle between the living and the dead.
