Yellowstone has only been around since 2018, but the show is so popular that series co-creator Taylor Sheridan keeps coming up with new spinoffs and prequel series for Paramount+. That was also a way for Paramount+ to have a part of the franchise since the streaming rights for Yellowstone currently belong to Peacock. To date, Sheridan has produced and released two prequel miniseries, 1923 and 1883, with more shows on the way. While 1883 was designed to run only a single season, a new season of 1923 is in the works.

Although filming has yet to begin for 1923 season 2, a few things have been revealed about what’s coming up next. We’ll add more details when new information is available. For now, this is everything you need to know about 1923 season 2.

1923 season 2 will hit Paramount+ on Sunday, February 23, 2025, with new episodes released weekly.

Not yet, but there are a pair of very short teasers. The videos are light on details, but the intense pressure on the Dutton family is felt throughout. The first teaser features a voiceover from Spencer Dutton as he struggles to return home to help save his family.

The second teaser gives Harrison Ford’s Jacob Dutton the spotlight as he lays out the stakes for his family.

In the absence of a full trailer, we’ll just have to settle for these advance pictures from 1923 season 2. None of these images contain obvious spoilers, but they also don’t tell us very much about what’s going to happen.

Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren, the two names at the top of the call sheet, have confirmed that they will be back as a Jacob and Cara Dutton, the couple at the heart of the series. Barring any recastings, the following performers will also return for 1923 season 2:

Deadline is reporting that Jennifer Carpenter is joining the cast of 1923 on a recurring basis throughout the second season. Carpenter will play Mamie Fossett, a character who is described as “a highly capable U.S. Deputy Marshall who serves warrants and makes arrests with confidence ahead of her time.”

Carpenter portrayed Emily Rose in the horror film The Exorcism of Emily Rose. However, her best-known role is Debra Morgan, the adoptive sister of the title character of Showtime’s Dexter. Carpenter reprised her part in the sequel miniseries, Dexter: New Blood. Her other credits include Limitless, The Enemy Within, and the upcoming miniseries Ballistic.

Additionally, Deadline broke he story that Janet Montgomery has also joined the cast of 1923 season 2. Her character, Hillary, is described as “a thoughtful woman who does not want to see injustice go unpunished.”

Montgomery’s previous credits include The Human Target, Salem, Downton Abbey, This is Us, Quantum Leap, and New Amsterdam. She also starred in Paramount+’s The Ex-Wife, and has a leading role in an upcoming movie called Fate.

The next cast member to join the show is Augustus Prew, who most recently appeared in The Morning Show on Apple TV+. His character, Paul, will appear on a recurring basis in season. It’s unclear how he will fit into the narrative, since he’s described as “a dapper, bookish, well-to-do young British man on a passenger ship.”

Prew appeared on the fifth season of Prison Break, and he had a starring role on the CBS series Pure Genius. His other credits include About a Boy, The Secret of Moonacre, Charlie St. Cloud, and The Borgias.

According to Variety, Andy Dispensa will join the cast of 1923 season 2 in a recurring role. Dispensa will be playing Luca, “a young man working in the engine room of a merchant ship.” The actor has previously appeared in NCIS: Hawai’i, and he portrayed Dion in the biblical series The Chosen.

Yes. Via CNN, Cole Brings Plenty was found dead on April 5, 2024 after going missing on March 31. He portrayed Pete Plenty Clouds, the teenage son of Hank Plenty Clouds (Michael Greyeyes), in 1923 season 1. The circumstances of Bring Plenty’s death are unclear, as his body was discovered a short distance away from his car. Brings Plenty had also been suspected of domestic violence when he went missing. He was the nephew of Yellowstone actor Mo Brings Plenty.

It’s currently unknown if Brings Plenty had been slated to return as Pete in 1923 season 2 or if the role will be recast.

As of September 2024, production ofeason 2 is finally underway. At least a portion of the show will be filmed in downtown San Antonio, as per a report from Texas Public Radio. The production will only be present for the week of September 16 before moving on to another location.

Paramount+ hasn’t announced how long 1923 season 2 will be filming, but it seems to be on course for a 2025 premiere.

Paramount+ has released the following synopsis for 1923 season 2:

“In season 2, a cruel winter brings new challenges and unfinished business to Jacob (Ford) and Cara (Mirren) back at Dutton ranch. With harsh conditions and adversaries threatening to end the Dutton legacy, Spencer (Brandon Sklenar) embarks on an arduous journey home, racing against time to save his family in Montana. Meanwhile, Alexandra (Julia Schlaepfer) sets off on her own harrowing trans-Atlantic journey to find Spencer and reclaim their love.”

No. Sheridan has indicated that he only has plans for eight more episodes of 1923, which would conclude this chapter of the Dutton family’s saga.

“This one is different than 1883, where I had the whole thing blocked out in my head,” said Sheridan during a 2022 interview with Deadline. “This one, I had no idea what I was going to do. I just went on a journey myself and I’m the one that made the call to the network, which is probably the greatest call they ever got. ‘Hey, I need to make more episodes to finish this story. I need to do this in two blocks. An eight-episode block and a second eight-episode block to wrap this up. I can’t wrap it up in two episodes and do the story justice. For them, it is great because they get more content. For me, I get more runway.”

Spencer Dutton actor Brandon Sklenar recently told Forbes that he’s had all of the scripts for six months, and he’s very excited about how the show comes to an end.

“The finale of the series is probably one of the best things I’ve read in my life,” said Sklenar. “I’ve kind of known how it was going to end since day one — Taylor [Sheridan] kind of told me. I knew the full arc of Spencer from day one, so in shooting part one, you’re mindful of where he needs to go. I’m really excited.”

“I can confidently say that it’s going to be absolutely incredible,” added Sklenar. “The tone shifts a lot and it’s definitely a bit darker. It’s very beautiful … and it’s going to be special.”

Yes. The sequel miniseries, 1944, was announced in February 2023. It would set the show in the latter part of World War II, and presumably, the Dutton family fought in that conflict. Beyond that, no other details about the show are available.
