Though Miles Teller is one of Hollywood’s fastest-rising stars, it sometimes seems as if he and his team are picking his projects by throwing darts at a wall full of scripts while wearing blindfolds. Case in point, his latest project, which you wouldn’t guess if we gave you all of recorded history to try.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Teller will soon voice the titular aardvark in the upcoming The Ark and the Aardvark, a biblical animated feature from Kung Fu Panda director John Stevenson.
IMDB’s synopsis reads simply: “An aardvark named Gilbert lands the job of shepherding all the animals onto Noah’s Ark.” Apparently, Gilbert isn’t all that thrilled to have the job and is saddled with a “ragtag group of misfit animals.” While live-action biblical epics tend to be solemn affairs, you can expect plenty of humor and hijinks from this one.
You can add Teller’s put-upon aardvark to a résumé that includes a prodigious young drummer (Whiplash), a brash and controversial boxer (Bleed for This), an unlikely arms dealer (War Dogs), and an uber-elastic superhero (Fantastic Four). Eclectic enough for you? Whether you’re a fan of his or not, it’s hard to deny that the young man has some serious range.
Said Stevenson in a statement about the casting: “Gilbert is young, spirited, sarcastic, and we couldn’t have found a more perfect artist to bring Gilbert to life in Miles,”
At this point, you might be wondering who will voice … you know … all the rest of Planet Earth’s creatures. That’s an open question for the time being, as Teller is the film’s only official cast member. Also TBA is the film’s official release date, though it is expected to drop sometime in 2017.
