Comic-Con New York got some very bad news last week, as it learned that 2016 would mark the final appearance of comics industry legend Stan Lee. But today, Comic-Con San Diego got some very good news about its 2016 show.
According to ScreenCrush, Star Trek Beyond will open the convention as it hosts its world premiere on Wednesday, July 20. The film will be shown at the Embarcadero Marina Park South and will be displayed on a large-format, IMAX screen.
The premiere will mark the first time a film has debuted outdoors and in IMAX, and those lucky enough to catch it will get to enjoy a beautiful night (it’s always beautiful in San Diego) by the ocean as they check out one of the most anticipated films of 2016.
What’s more, the San Diego Symphony Orchestra will perform the Michael Giacchino-composed score live alongside the film. Said director Justin Lin, “I am thrilled to celebrate the premiere of the film together with the fans at Comic-Con and excited for everyone there to experience Michael Giacchino’s incredible score played live.”
Though the event will be part of Comic-Con, it is not exclusive to Comic-Con attendees, and those who attended the recent 50th anniversary fan event in Los Angeles have already received invites to the screening. If you’re looking to try to score a few tickets for yourself, be ready, as they are expected to be available soon.
For those of you who missed it, a new trailer for the film debuted over the weekend and seems to have been very well received by fans of the franchise. Can the movie itself live up to the hype? We’ll just have to wait and see.
Star Trek Beyond stars Chris Pine, Zoe Saldana, Zachary Quinto, and Idris Elba. The film is set to hit theaters everywhere on July 22, 2016.
