Is it just us, or does Will Ferrell seem to be pals with every comedian on Planet Earth?
He’s teamed with a who’s who of funny men and women in the course of his side-splitting career and he has just recently added another comedy heavyweight to his long list of silver screen co-stars.
Ferrell is currently filming New Line’s The House with comedienne Amy Poehler, and Variety is reporting that the film has secured a June, 2, 2017 release date, placing it smack dab in the middle of the summer movie season.
The upcoming comedy casts Ferrell and Poehler as parents who lose their daughter’s college tuition fund and open an unsanctioned, underground casino in an effort to fund her education. Neighbors writer Andrew J. Cohen co-wrote the screenplay with Brendan O’Brien and will also direct the film.
Summer Fridays are coveted real-estate in the movie world, so the fact that New Line has positioned the film so centrally suggests that they have quite a bit of confidence in the project. Throw in what sounds like a clever, funny premise, and Poehler/Ferrell fans have plenty to be excited about.
For the time being, World War Z 2, Cars 3, and Kingsman: The Secret Service 2 are all scheduled for June, 2017 releases as well, but as far as comedies go, there doesn’t appear to be much competition for the film as of yet.
As castmates on Saturday Night Live, Ferrell and Poehler frequently appeared onscreen together, but this is the first time the pair has appeared in a film as the male and female leads.
You can catch Poehler alongside gal pal Tina Fey in the upcoming Sisters, which will open opposite Star Wars: The Force Awakens on Dec. 18, 2015), while Ferrell’s latest, Daddy’s Home, is set to hit theaters this Christmas.
China just gave Hollywood a cautionary tale about AI filmmaking. Sanxingdui: Future Past, billed as the country's first fully AI-generated movie, hit theaters on October 23 and bombed at the box office.
According to Futurism, the film's reported $1.5 million production budget landed on more than 10,000 screens. Yet it pulled in only about $181,000, averaging roughly $20 per screen, making the budget difficult to recover.
Some of the best shots in Grok Imagine’s AI-made Odyssey don’t contain actors. Ancient landscapes stretch into the distance. Close-ups of grimy hands suggest people who have touched something rougher than a keyboard. For a few seconds, the illusion holds.

YouTube videos could soon look better without eating quite so much data, right? Thankfully, the platform plans to introduce a new video format called AV2 on its web player in early 2027, promising more efficient streaming and potentially fewer playback hiccups on slower internet connections. The big headline is a roughly 30% improvement in compression efficiency over AV1, YouTube's existing video format. That doesn't guarantee every video will use 30% less data, but it could make streaming a little easier on both internet connections and data allowances.
What is AV2, and why should viewers care?
