Yahoo Sports is bringing its focus on Major League Baseball (MLB) live-streams to its rebuilt mobile app with a host of new features.
As part of its latest update, the completely redesigned app now features a personalized live-streaming guide that helps you find and connect to services that are broadcasting MLB games. Additionally, Yahoo Sports will let you watch selected game-of-the-day broadcasts during the current MLB season live on your iOS or Android device.
Now, when you open the app, you will see a “Watch” button alongside games with streaming options on the “Schedule” page. Select the game you want to watch and you will be directed to its details page, where you will find a “Watch Now” button that tells you where it is being streamed. Yahoo claims that the app manages the complex rights and blackout restrictions to only show you live-streaming options that are available to you. Additionally, for mobile streaming fans, if a game is labelled as “Live on Yahoo” that means you can watch it directly on the game details page. It’s not just baseball fans who get a piece of the live-streaming action, Yahoo is also currently streaming four NHL games per week, which are available to view on the app.
Aside from visual content, Yahoo Sports offers news and updates from all the major sporting leagues. Sports fans can customize their app experience by selecting their favorite teams, and can receive notifications and updates. The app also offers exclusive content from popular Yahoo Sports columnists such as Adrian Wojnarowski, Dan Wetzel, and Pat Forde.
“We are excited to say that the days of scouring the internet to find where your live sports are streaming are a thing of the past,” states Parker Emmott, Director, Product Management at Yahoo, in a Tumblr post. “Starting today with MLB, our completely redesigned Yahoo Sports app now features a guide to find and stream live baseball games.”
Despite going through a major transition as a result of its recent acquisition by Verizon, Yahoo remains intent on refreshing its products in an effort to keep up with its rivals. Like other web giants such as Twitter and Facebook, Yahoo has stepped up its live-streaming game this year — first by acquiring the live-streaming rights to 180 MLB games, and then by launching a free Hulu streaming service in the form of Yahoo View.
